NEW AND IMPROVED!!!

This is a SketchUp model of the Wild Karrde, a ship from the expanded Star Wars universe, and appearing in the "Thrawn Series" of books by Timothy Zahn. The Wild Karrde is a Corellian Engineering Action-IV Bulk Freighter named after its owner, the smuggler Talon Karrde, who used it as his mobile base of operations. The Wild Karrde was no ordinary freighter, as Karrde had made extensive modifications, adding military-grade shield projectors and turbolaser batteries that were hidden inside the hull. The ship was also equipped with advanced sensor jamming equipment making the ship appear as a lowly freighter on a casual scan, and she had more than a few surprises for potential pirates and unwary Imperial patrols. At the center of the ship Karrde had a state-of-the-art communications suite allowing him to keep on top of his organization and contacts from anywhere in the galaxy.

By request, I updated my SketchUp model of the Wild Karrde by adding the turd-brown, I mean rusty-brown (does metal rust in space?), weathered textures which I spent about 12-freaking hours on. There are no UVW mapping tools in SketchUp – there are plugins out there, but the ones I've seen are confusing and never work for me – so I do it all by hand! What I have to do is take an orthographic render of the side of the ship I'm working on, export the image to Photoshop and do all my graphics there, then import it as a texture back into SketchUp and carefully line it up with model - the only tools for this are scale, rotate and move pretty much. Once lined up you project the texture on the surface and if all goes well it should fit nicely. Of course sometimes I have to bounce back between SketchUp and Photoshop to make adjustments.

I could have cheated and exported the model to another 3d program like 3d Studio or Blender and do my UVW-mapping there, I know some modellers do that, but I think that's an even bigger pain in the ass to do because the model itself can get all wonky through the exporting procedure.

Anyway she now looks like's she's supposed to, (at least how she's usually represented in comics and stuff), instead of baby blue. I made the baby blue model just a generic Action-IV.

I thought the Wild Karrde was an Action VI Series Ship, not an Action IV?
