Star Wars - Nebulon Ranger

This is a SketchUp model of the Nebulon Ranger, a spaceship from the expanded Star Wars universe, first appearing in the Dark Horse comic series "Tales of the Jedi."  The ship was used 4,000 years before the Battle of Yavin by the trio of Jedi Knights: Cay Qel-Droma, his brother Ulic and the Twi'lek, Tott Doneeta – on their historic missions.

The ship was a Krasten Shipyards Crecent-X9 courier, a craft designed for some of the earliest diplomatic and exploration missions into the galactic frontier. The ship's most notable feature was the massive wing mounted at a 45º angle to the starboard side of the main hull. The ends of the wings folded inward for landing clearance. In their time, the X9s were widely used by the Republic Navy and favored by the Jedi Order for their reliability and effective combat ability. Depending on the mission, the ships could be equipped with up to four laser cannons, a pulse-wave gun, (a common energy weapon used during the Great Sith War), a heavy laser turret and concussion missile launchers for defense.

Cay had made considerable modifications to his X9, but it was brought down in a crash after he took on his brother Ulic, then a Sith Apprentice, in a dogfight over the planet Ossus.

For the modeling "purists" out there who like to complain when things aren't exactly 100% - I made this model using the rather inaccurate orthos from the original Essential Guide to Vehicles and Vessels book as a guide, although I put my own details and dimensions into the craft, such as adding landing gear, and various surface details to the wings and hull. Sorry if it isn't exact to whats in the original comic, which by the way, seemed to change every time it was drawn anyway.
