Description

This is an orthographic diagram of the UPF Explorer/Surveyor ship from Star Frontiers, using a SketchUp model that I made earlier and to go along with the one I made for the Assault Scout. The ship is from the classic sci-fi role-playing game Star Frontiers and first appeared in the adventure module "SFKN2 - Mutiny on the Eleanor Moraes."

The Explorer is used by both the government and private corporations to investigate newly discovered worlds, and known worlds still hiding secrets. It consists of a bullet-shaped winged flight module housing the crew and various science labs in which to work. Inside the decks are stacked bow to stern with gravity provided by a constant  acceleration forward. When the ship arrives in a star system it flips around and thrusts backwards to slow down, providing gravity through deceleration.

The circular lander module contains two hanger bays for vehicles and equipment as well as a crew of robots. When a mission is completed, the flight module can detach and leave the lander and its robots behind to continue the survey mission.

Exploration ships are not normally armed, but his ship has a pair of laser turrets for extra protection when operating in dangerous sectors of space, or venturing in completely unknown territory.

Again for the "modeling purists" out there, this is my interpretation of the ship from the sci-fi RPG, so it's not 100% exact detail-to-detail to the original deck plans and artwork out there for such a vessel. My original model is up on 3d Warehouse to view and download and you can use it for whatever you want, so feel free to make changes as you see fit for your games or whatever you use it for.

This is one of the most awesome things I've seen in a long time. Did you make any deck plans for it?
